SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Feb. 1, 2005 - During its quarterly Network Computing '05(NC05Q1) launch today, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW), the market leader in Traditional Workstation shipments and revenue according to IDC, unveiled up to 40 percent performance increases in its UltraSPARC(R) processor-based Sun Blade 1500 and Sun Blade 2500 workstations. These workstations are ideal for software development, engineering and scientific research, and are designed to help developers and systems administrators take advantage of the recently announced Solaris 10 Operating System (OS). Additionally, Sun today announced new pricing promotions for both its UltraSPARC and AMD Opteron processor-based workstation lines, giving customers even better price-performance benefits for these products.
The upgraded Sun Blade 1500 and Sun Blade 2500 workstations give customers up to 40 percent better performance than the previous generation of Sun Blade workstations. They are 100 percent binary compatible with older models so that applications run unmodified, allowing customers to protect their software and knowledge base investments. With double the memory, increased storage capacity and industry standard optical media options, these new workstations provide a compelling upgrade path without time-consuming software migration. The new Sun Blade 1500 and Sun Blade 2500 workstations are currently available worldwide at a starting list price of $3195 and $7195 (USD), respectively.
