JAIN SLEE Alliances for Sun's ATCA Platform Simplify IMS Service Creation and Deployment for Convergent Fixed-Mobile Networks
NEW ORLEANS, CTIA WIRELESS (Booth 1370) March 14, 2005 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW) unveiled further details of its next-generation Netra Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) blade platform strategy today by announcing alliances with jNetXTM and Open Cloud, leading JAIN Service Logic Execution Environment (JAIN SLEE) providers, to accelerate development and deployment of new IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services for convergent fixed- mobile network environments. By partnering with these leading JAIN SLEE providers, Sun will enable carrier-grade service creation and execution environments for its upcoming Netra ATCA blade platform, supporting both Solaris 10 and Carrier-Grade Linux operating systems.
The JAIN SLEE technology intitiative enables creation of high-performance, asynchronous, fault-tolerant application servers, which facilitates the rapid development of Java technology-based, next-generation communications products and services. By pairing JAIN SLEE technology with an ATCA blade platform, carriers and network equipment providers can create a cost-effective, highly flexible infrastructure to deliver revenue-generating services such as IMS, for the convergence of data, voice and mobile network technologies using an IP-based infrastructure. "By bringing together Sun's Netra ATCA blade platform with leading JAIN SLEE providers, service providers and network equipment providers will be able to quickly develop and deploy revenue-enhancing IMS services for next-generation IP-based telecom networks," said Raju Penumatcha, VP of Netra Systems and Networking, Sun Microsystems. "Sun's Netra ATCA blade platform will deliver the high-density, scalable, carrier-grade platform needed to make IMS services cost-effective while reducing time-to-revenue." jNetX N(x) Middleware Solution jNetX will be qualifying and delivering its carrier-grade N(x) middleware product family, a JAIN SLEE 1.0 compliant environment, on Sun's Netra ATCA blade platform, supporting both Solaris 10 and Carrier-Grade Linux operating systems, for development and deployment of next generation IMS services. jNetX's N(x) middleware solution will provide a simplified service creation and execution environment, supporting SIP, SS7 and other network protocols for convergent fixed- mobile network environments. jNetX's N(x) middleware solution offers a future-proofed IMS service environment which will be ideal for rapid deployment of next generation services on upcoming Sun's Netra ATCA platform. "jNetX's introduction of its N(x) middleware on Sun's Netra ATCA platform provides a world class IMS development and deployment platform, which will help service providers rapidly monetize these new services on convergent fixed-mobile networks," said Steve Lasko Director of Marketing, jNetX. "Leveraging open, standards-based computing platforms like Sun's Netra ATCA blade servers allow service providers the flexibility to deploy revenue-generating services that can easily adapt to evolving marketplace needs." Open Cloud Rhino JAIN SLEE Solution Open Cloud, co-lead on the JAIN SLEE specification group, will be qualifying and delivering its high performance, JAIN SLEE 1.0 compliant, Rhino product family, supporting both Solaris 10 and Carrier-Grade Linux environments. Open Cloud offers a complete set of JAIN SLEE service creation products designed to meet the needs of service providers and network equipment providers looking to quickly monetize new IMS services on convergent fixed-mobile networks. Supporting SIP, SS7 and other network protocols, Open Cloud's Rhino JAIN SLEE products provide the perfect solution for rapid development and deployment of next generation IMS services. "Open Cloud's JAIN SLEE-based Rhino products are based on open-systems standards, modular designs and common application program interfaces (APIs)," said Peter Barralet, CEO, Open Cloud. "As the co-lead with Sun on the JAIN SLEE API specification group, Open Cloud is driving the JAIN SLEE community to develop a robust, Java-based, carrier-grade service creation and execution environment which will leverage Sun's upcoming Netra ATCA platform, to develop high value, revenue generating IMS services for 2.5 GPRS, 3G and 3GPP2 as well as existing PSTN networks." Sun Netra NEBS-Certified Products As a leader in carrier-grade servers, Sun delivers a comprehensive line of NEBS Level 3 certified Netra rack and PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) standard blade servers with the proven, highly-reliable Solaris operating system. These NEBS-certified platforms are used by 9 out of 10 leading network equipment providers, delivering highly-reliable telecom network infrastructure for wireless, wireline and broadband networks worldwide. Sun's Netra ATCA blade platform, supporting both Solaris 10 and Carrier-Grade Linux operating systems, will extend Sun's Netra product family, offering an ideal choice for next-generation, high-bandwidth wireless and broadband services.
