Sun Microsystems to Propel Next-Generation Mobile Java Technology Success With NTT DoCoMo

Expanded Partnership to Tackle Mobile Data Service Delivery Platforms

SAN FRANCISCO -- JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference -- June 29, 2005 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW), founder and lead advocate for Java technology, today announced an agreement with NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile operator, to deliver a next-generation mobile data services platform based on open-standard Java technology. Codenamed * Project (Star Project), this collaboration extends the two companies' successful ongoing relationship to deliver the development tools and a secure, feature-rich Java technology-based environment that will help deliver on DoCoMo's mission to enrich consumers' lifestyles and bring people closer together.

The * Project harnesses DoCoMo and Sun's expertise in enabling and deploying mass-market, Java technology-based mobile data services. Together, having successfully kick-started mobile entertainment and mobile commerce services, the companies are now collaborating on the next platform evolution that will help enable the kind of innovative and secure mobile data services that are beyond the capabilities of DoCoMo's current platform.
