Analyst Firm Reports Sun Captures Leadership in Worldwide UNIX Server Revenue and Unit Shipments

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 24, 2005 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced that, according to 2Q05 Worldwide Server Database by Gartner Dataquest, Sun is the number one UNIX platform server vendor in the world, in both revenue and unit shipments. According to Gartner, Sun also reclaimed the number three position in all OS revenue.

  • Sun is number 1 in worldwide UNIX server revenue.
  • Sun is number 1 in worldwide UNIX server shipment.
  • Sun increased its Sun X86-64 platform server revenue year-to-year by 378.6%.
  • Sun increased its X86-64 unit year-to-year shipments by 274.6%.
  • Sun is number 1 in worldwide UNIX+ Sun Linux platform unit shipments.
  • Sun reclaimed the number three position in all OS server revenue.
