SUN MICROSYSTEMS COMPUTER COMPANY APPOINTS CTO
Dr. Greg M. Papadopoulos Named Chief Technology Officer of Sun Microsystems Computer Company
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.- January 10, 1996 - Sun Microsystems
Computer Company today announced that Dr. Greg M. Papadopoulos, Ph.D.
has been appointed chief technology officer, reporting directly to Ed
Zander, president of Sun Microsystems Computer Company. Dr.
Papadopoulos will be responsible for core technology strategy and
advanced development programs, key technology investments and external
technology partnerships for the company.
Dr. Papadopoulos joined Sun in September 1994 as chief scientist
for Server Systems, and was promoted to chief technology officer of the
Enterprise Servers and Storage Group in June 1995. While at Sun, he has
been instrumental in designing high performance and highly scalable
systems.
"Greg's solid engineering experience and demonstrated technical
leadership will help drive Sun's new generation of network computing
solutions," said Sun Microsystems Computer Company president Ed
Zander.
Dr. Papadopoulos has an extensive history in leading technology
investments. He was director of product strategy and senior architect
at Thinking Machines Corporation (TMC) in Cambridge, Mass. Before
joining TMC, he was an associate professor at MIT, where he taught
electrical engineering and computer science. He was the recipient of
the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator
Award. In 1984, Papadopoulos co-founded and was chief systems architect
at PictureTel Corporation in Danvers, Mass.
