SUN ENHANCES AWARD-WINNING TESTING TOOLS

JavaLoad and JavaStar Can Reduce Development Costs and Speed Deployment of Enterprise Applications

PALO ALTO, Calif., August 26, 1999 - Sun Microsystems, Inc., today announced enhanced versions of the JavaLoad™ and JavaStar™ testing products, 1999 winners of the Java Developer's Journal Readers' Choice Award. These tools can help companies reduce costs, decrease application deployment time and leverage valuable IT staff resources. The JavaLoad and JavaStar testing products offer developers and quality assurance engineers flexible, convenient, Java™ technology-based tools that help verify the scalability and quality of mission-critical, real-time applications.

"Today more than ever, it's important for businesses to develop enterprise software quickly while getting it done right the first time," said Jon Williams, Director of Marketing for Internet Applications and Performance Tools, Sun Microsystems. "With the new testing tools releases, Sun continues to offer products that assist our customers in deploying high-quality, efficient, and reliable applications across multi-tier environments."

The Next Generation of Sun Testing Tools

With the increased demand for electronic commerce, web order entry, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and call center applications, businesses today need robust testing tools that can evaluate high-performance applications in simulated conditions prior to deployment. JavaLoad 1.1 and JavaStar 1.2 tools enable developers to test enterprise applications during critical phases of development, pinpoint bottlenecks, and fix problems before deployment.

"Delivering high-quality e-commerce infrastructure products that enable companies to rapidly take their businesses online and compete in the Net Economy is essential for customer success," said Joe Keller, vice president of product marketing for the Sun-Netscape Alliance. "Sun's JavaLoad and JavaStar support for our e-commerce infrastructure products adds significant value by allowing developers to test scalability, performance and reliability of mission-critical enterprise applications during and after deployment."

JavaStar 1.2 software is a GUI testing tool for applications based on Java™ technology that enables developers to build and play back user sessions on different platforms. JavaLoad 1.1 software is a load testing tool for both Java technology-based and other applications. The JavaLoad product provides developers and quality engineers with a tool that allows them to target load testing at every point in an application's life cycle.

The upgraded JavaStar software now supports JDK™ 1.1.8 software and the Java™ 2 Platform, Standard Edition, version 1.2. Support for the Java 2 platform has also been incorporated into the JavaLoad 1.1 software release, along with several new enhancements, including:

  • Support for the Solaris™ 7 Operating Environment and NetDynamics™ 5 application server, giving businesses an advantage when building scalable, high-performance, enterprise-class applications.

  • A new plug-in architecture that allows for easy integration of future record/playback plug-ins, allowing customers to purchase only the software they need. The JavaLoad tool currently includes two plug-ins, WebLoader and DataProxy, which provide automatic record/playback capabilities for the HTTP, JDBC™, and Socket network and application protocols.

  • A new licensing structure based on a host ID model that provides greater flexibility and allows for evaluation from multiple locations.

These 100% Pure Java™ testing tools enable developers to create tests which you can "Write Once, Run Anywhere™" reducing time while freeing resources for other activities.
