Networking

Network connectivity is a critical ingredient in delivering services to your customers. Making the right connections with Sun is simple. Many of Sun's network building blocks work seamlessly together to aggregate both bandwidth and resilience creating solutions that are both fast and reliable. Choosing the best connectivity solution is one click away.

High Availability Services
Name
Purpose
Provides a suite of foundation services that enable the deployment of applications on a highly available Solaris platform; can be embedded in a solution to augment standard Solaris availability for a cluster of distributed, loosely coupled nodes, or to complement an existing, customer-provided HA framework.

Network Connectivity
Name
Purpose
Connect Solaris systems to all other OSI systems; access OSI networks worldwide.
Communicates across public and private X.25 networks with other systems running X.25; can be used with both leased and dial-up lines.
Link together duplex ports on a Sun Quad FastEthernet adapter to obtain 800 Mbps of full duplex performance between Sun servers and a Sun Trunking compatible switch.

Network Management
Name
Purpose
Remotely manage and administer software for Sun Enterprise 250, Sun Fire 280R, and Sun Fire V880 servers through a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line interface (CLI).
Interconnect multiple Solstice SunNet Manager consoles; enable cooperative management of medium to large enterprise networks.
Manage local and enterprise-wide distributed networks; analyze resource performance, identify and resolve faults; simplify and automate the management of multi-vendor networks.
Create custom and extensible SNMPv1 or DMI 2.0 agents for Solaris software network and system management.
Manage telecom and Internet services including wireline (SONET/SDM, ATM, Frame Relay), wireless (cellular, PCS, GSM), satellite, and ISP networks.
Manage topology, events, and traps in small (100 nodes or less) heterogeneous environments.

Telecom
Name
Purpose
Develop TMN applications and CMIP-based management applications.
Implement the ISO FTAM protocol (ISO 8571) for transferring, accessing, and managing files between diverse file systems; manage files by mapping the characteristics of a file system to a common model.
Develop TMN manager and agent applications; generate conformance documents automatically and store all definitions in a central object directory with multiuser access.
Define manually or automatically generate test and validation criteria.
Develop TMN agents within a CMIP development environment using core agent functions and standard methods for agent/object communication.
Acts as a gateway between the TMN and SNMP environments; translates CMIP/OSI protocols to SNMP protocols and vice versa.
From a manager or an agent role, prototype and develop small, TMN management applications and Java TMN applets.
