version of the Java Desktop System. There were a few cosmetic and
stability issues typical of prerelease software, but the system
does have the potential to attract organisations disenchanted with
Microsoft's "software assurance" licensing scheme or perhaps

ease of use, and providing a comfortable environment for Windows

APPLICATIONS TO SUN'S NEW JAVA DESKTOP SYSTEM Sun
Microsystems, Inc. and Macromedia, today announced an agreement to
integrate and ship Macromedia Flash Player 7 with the Java Desktop
System. As part of the agreement, Macromedia Flash Player will be
pre-installed into Mozilla &emdash; a popular open source
browser, a key component of the Java Desktop System &emdash;
allowing users to conveniently view Flash content "out of the box,"
without having to download and install the player separately.
