Java for Business Release Families

Java for Business release families remain consistent and compatible with Java SE while adding:

  • Longer support and maintenance periods for each Java SE release family
  • Five year advance notification of Java for Business release families, consistent with Sun's standard End of Service Life policy for value-added products
  • Plans for five years of retirement support following a Java for Business release family's EOL date

** Java for Business 1.4 release family EOL dates and EOSL dates are expected to provide a longer service life than what Sun expects to be standard practice with Java for Business release families to ensure customers receive the full length of Sun's standard five-year EOL transition period between the EOL notification and the release family's EOL.
