Sun Professional Services

The Sun Professional Services Java Centers offer system architects who specialize in helping customers evaluate and use Jini technology with the following services:

• Jini technology-enabled Readiness Service: Teaches customers a practical set of development skills related to distributed computing, based on Jini technology. The readiness service includes the development of a focused Jini technology proof-of-concept, based on hands-on experience.
• Jini Architecture Assessment: Assists the designer in evaluating an existing or proposed Jini technology-enabled service architecture.
• Jini technology-enabled Service Architecture: Helps designers create a prototype that can be leveraged for further implementation and deployment. Sun's Professional Services Java Center architects work on-site with a customer both to construct a prototype and to mentor the customer's staff on key design patterns.

Java Centers' Jini technology services are available today on a custom-quote basis, tailored to specific customer needs.

Developer Access Plus[sm] provides technical development support for Solaris and Java technologies, including the Jini technology, allowing developers unlimited incident support. A technical account manager is assigned to Access Plus customers, and will be available to the customer for support and account management. Early access support is also available, as well as an annual account review.

Sun Educational Services

There are two self-paced Web-based courses currently available for Jini technology:

1. What is Jini Technology?
   This two module course is designed to introduce students to Jini technology and increase awareness of Jini technology capabilities. This course will describe the vision of Jini technology, explore why the technology is significant, and briefly describe what is needed to implement the technology.
2. Getting Started with Jini Technology
   This seven module course is designed to introduce students to the principles and concepts of Jini technology and the fundamentals of programming with Jini technology. Students are introduced to the main classes and interfaces used in creating a system of Jini technology-enabled services and/or devices, and are shown code examples demonstrating the major functionalities of Jini technology.

In addition, Sun also offers two-day classroom training entitled:

• The Jini Technology: Distributed Services Programming seminar provides students with the information needed to use Jini connection technology in real world applications. It covers the fundamentals of remote method invocation (RMI), which is often used with Jini technology. The seminar describes the vision of Jini technology, and discusses the concepts of spontaneous networking. It then discusses the key parts of the Jini technology programming model: leases, distributed events, transactions and the Jini lookup service.

Other Resources

There are a multitude of free resources available today.

The jini.org web site at http://www.jini.org. The site has two major parts:

1. A general community site, which has general and public information about the Jini technology, architecture, and programs.
2. A developer's site, which allows for sharing code covered under the Jini technology SCSL (Sun Community Source Licensing) license.
