It is being integrated into Solaris 10 OE and is available as a free download on the other leading platforms. It is offered free of license fee for development and deployment, with support available for an additional charge.

What's new in Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8?

Java System Application Server has a number of new features. It is the industry's first application server to achieve J2EE 1.4 Compatibility, Web services interoperability, and support the new JavaServer Faces API's. Java System Applications Server Platform Edition 8 also delivers new APIs for Web services, deployment, management and container authorization. This release also provides updated for a number of APIs, including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)2.1, Java Servlet 2.4, JavaServer Pages (JSP) 2.0, and J2EE Connectors 1.5. Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8 features a number of performance improvements including reduced download size (28MB, 50% smaller than version 7) and memory footprint (163 Mb, a 55% improvement over version 7).

What platforms are supported for the Java System Application Server 8?

Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8 is supported on Solaris 9 and 8 Operating Environment (SPARC Platform Edition), Solaris 9 Operating System (X86 Platform Edition), Sun Java desktop System, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 and 3.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003.
