A:
Portal Server perpetual and/or annual subscriptions are also available per CPU or per socket, which entitles the customer to one CPU or one socket that includes a restricted-use license for Sun Java System Access Manager, Sun Java System Directory Server, Sun Java System Web Server and Sun Java System Application Server (Enterprise Edition).

What are the exceptions to this licensing model?
A:
There are two exceptions to this licensing model:
  • Duplicate Portal Installations – Customers who desire a duplicate Portal installation for failover purposes are entitled to a 50% savings off the list price.
  • Pilot Installations – A pilot option is currently available whereby the evaluation copy of the software is provided with a 90-day support contract for only $10K(U.S.). (See Sun Java System OEM price book, part #DSS89-SUS-T889.) For unsupported POC's, simply download the software from http://www.sun.com/download.

What is the migration and upgrade plan for customers who have purchased Portal Server at the previous pricing?
A:
Portal Server 6 customers with qualifying support contracts are entitled to upgrade to 1 CPU of Portal Server 7 for each CPU purchased of Portal 6. Any additional CPUs required will have to be purchased at the new $57K (U.S.) per CPU price.
