A:

The Java System Web Server goes through extensive security reviews, is fully supported by Sun and its worldwide network of Sun Partners, and goes through full testing cycles, which test not only the core content engines, but also the add-on components.

Do I really need an application server (e.g. IBM WebSphere) for my Java application?
A:
In some cases, no. Java applications that rely on Java Servlet or JavaServer Pages technologies (i.e., do not use the EJB specification) are best deployed on the Java System Web Server. The Java System Web Server provides better performance and less complexity and administrative overhead.
