What are some of the specific assessment services that the North America Sun Professional Services team offers?
A:
  • Run the Readiness Evaluation Tools (RET) on the customer servers.
  • Analyze the output from RET.
  • Determine the third-party software support of the Solaris 8 or 9 OS and make recommendations.
  • Determine the suitability of the current configuration
  • Develop the Application Remediation Plan:
    • Establish the approach for adopting Solaris 8 or 9
    • Determine the application priorities for upgrading Solaris
    • Estimate the effort required to remediate the applications (i.e. make them Solaris 8 or 9 compatible).

What are some of the specific remedial services that are offered?

  • Remediation services:
    • Address binary non-compliance of the application, by
    • Making changes to the applications source code and/or
    • Changing the way the application is linked and built.
  • Upgrade 3rd party software as needed.
  • Test the remediated application(s).
  • Support the customer during their testing activities.
  • Provide a technical report of all changes made and their justification.

What does the Solaris Certification Test Suite certify?
A:
The Solaris Certification Test Suite guarantees that a certified application will run on the latest release of the Solaris Operating System as well as future releases of the Solaris OS. It also preserves the forward and backward compatibility of ISV applications with current and future releases of Solaris Operating System.

What are Solaris Readiness Evaluation Tools?
A:
The Solaris Readiness Evaluation Tools consist of asset manager and Binary assessment tools
  • Asset Survey determines the hardware and software configuration of an individual system or system environment. The results are stored in a Asset Survey database.
  • Binary assessment tools perform a Solaris readiness evaluation of the binary components of each application and calculate the md5 signature of each of the binary packages contained in the system or system environment. The results are stored in a readiness evaluation database.
