Solaris 8 2/02
The RSM API provides mechanisms upon which user applications such asOracle9i Real Application Clusters can build low-latency, high-bandwithmessaging to directly access interconnect hardware, bypassing theoperating system. Requires SCI-PCI interconnect in the Sun Cluster 3.0environment to utilize this feature.
The Solaris 8 OE contains an improved alternative multi-threaded library(libthread) which provides better performance, reliability andsimplicity than found in the original Solaris threads implementation, without requiring recoding or even recompilation. The Solaris 2/02update contains an improved version of this library.
Checkpoint-Resume (CPR) functionality, which is the ability to go intostandby mode, is now supported.
Process indications in CIM enable instrumentation providers to registertheir own event classes in addition to the intrinsic events which arepre-defined with any class declaration in CIM. These classes can be used to generate events which cannot be expressed as creation, deletion, access, modification and method invocations of classes already modeled in CIM. This functionality enhances the existing events support.
The Solaris platform now allows for input, display, and print of the entireGB18030 character set (including nearly 30,000 characters), so any applicationrunning on the Solaris platform can benefit from a wider set of Chinesecharacters. These glyphs are primarily Han characters, but the encoding alsoincludes glyphs for minority languages such as Tibetan, Wei, Yi and Mongolian.GB18030 support in Solaris software also includes backward compatibility toprevious Chinese codesets (GBK and GB2312) as well as conversion to othercodesets such as Unicode. Solaris developers do not need to do anythingspecial for this encoding support, standard toolkits will still be able to takeadvantage of i
Provides support for the HP, Seagate and IBM brands of LTO "Linear TapeOpen" tape drives, which can now be plugged in and used without having to make changes to the st.conf file
Netra T4 and X1 systems support is introduced in this update.
The Netra CT server extension links the cPCI server with the cPCI boards toform a integratable solution. The support for the CP 2040, 2060, and the 2080boards extends the functionality of the Netra CT servers by providingadditional processor board density for intelligent I/O processing. Theseadditional processors would off load and give specific I/O processing resourcesto the specific applications, thereby increasing the overall performance of theNetra CT servers.
