The Solaris 9 operating system has reached it's End of Life and the software and licenses are no longer available. Solaris 10, which was launched in January 2005 is the replacement with the latest release being Solaris 10 10/09.

The Solaris 9 operating system originally launched in May 2002. On April 28, 2009, Sun announced the Solaris 9 Operating System End of Life transition to customers and partners. Life cycle events (Last Order Date, Last Ship Date, End of Retirement Phase 1 and End of Service Life) will subsequently occur at the intervals defined in the life cycle model.

Sun Microsystems will discontinue sales of Solaris 9 certification exams on January 31, 2010. The last date to take all Solaris 9 certification exams will be March 31, 2010. More details on 'Discontinued Exams'

Sun encourages all customers to upgrade to the Solaris 10 Operating System and get the benefits of the latest systems and the innovations in Solaris 10. With Solaris 9 Containers software, existing Solaris 9 applications can be moved to Containers on Solaris 10 and immediately benefit from the innovations in the latest systems and in Solaris 10.

Please see the FAQs for additional information on the transition plan.
