Five easy steps
Sun offers a new recipe for success — the Solaris OS + AMP (Solaris 10 OS, Apache, MySQL, and PHP).
For customers committed to the open AMP stack, this "recipe" provides the same Web applications they know and use, but on a more secure open-source platform with greater scalability.
Sun provides complete step-by-step instructions to get up and running more quickly when building and deploying Web applications.
Sun offers five easy steps to quickly develop Web applications.
1. Get the Solaris 10 OS
Simplify development and speed deployment of better, more secure
web-based applications by starting with the Solaris 10 OS, the
strategic platform of choice for the Web. And with Solaris Express
Developer Edition, it's easier than ever for developers to get
started with Sun. The Solaris 10 OS is designed for scalability and for
ramping up new network services quickly, reliably, and
cost-effectively. You have two options:
2. Get the Optimized AMP Stack for the Solaris 10 OS
Sun's optimized AMP stack is a collection of some of the most commonly used open source applications optimized for the robust Solaris OS.
By using these binaries, users will enjoy the best levels of system performance — anywhere from
30 to 200 percent performance improvement over standard binaries, depending on workload/application — while also reducing time to service and avoiding vendor lock-in.
Note: Support for Cool Stack software is not covered by Sun support
agreements associated w/ Solaris or Sun Fire servers.

3. Get tools
Get the developer tools needed to build Web applications, including compilers, command line tools and a NetBeans-based integrated development environment (IDE) for application development, debugging, performance analysis, and optimization.
Sun Cool Tools for Web-tier optimization are designed specifically to enable users to seamlessly optimize their Web-tier environment by using the Solaris OS and Sun Fire servers based on
CoolThreads or x64 technology.

4. Get hardware
The Solaris 10 OS + AMP can be run on existing systems, since the free, open-source Solaris 10 OS is supported on the broadest set of x86/x64 and UltraSPARC systems available.
In fact, over 750 x86/x64 systems, including Xeon and Opteron, run the Solaris 10 OS today.
Sun's broad systems-based portfolio has a server for any business need, from eco-friendly innovative Sun CoolThreads servers to performance-optimized Sun Fire x64 servers.
Try AMP applications on the industry's fastest, most scalable, most energy-efficient systems and discover how Sun can make SAMP applications scream.
In fact, Sun offers several ways for you to see for yourself including
optional help in installation and enhancing service response time.
Try Sun systems risk-free for 60 days
Sun offers its popular Try and Buy program, where customers can receive a free 60-day trial of Sun systems, including: Sun Fire x64 servers, Sun CoolThreads servers, and Sun storage systems then customers can buy at 25-45% off.
Get Startup Essentials
Now more than ever, Sun's expanded Startup Essentials program helps start-up businesses conserve their cash, accelerate their development cycle, and reduce time to market for new network services.
