Solaris 10 OS Licensing
Earlier Sun systems or systems from other vendors are eligible for a free Solaris 10 license after registration of those systems.
Systems purchased after 2/01/05 from Sun and Sun authorized channels are licensed to run any current
versions of Solaris (8, 9, or 10, select one at time of purchase)
If Covered by a Sun Support Contract all upgrades to Solaris 10 are included
If Not Covered by a Sun Support Contract:
Existing systems purchased from Sun or Sun authorized resellers can upgrade to Solaris 10 by obtaining the Solaris 10 software and registering the system to obtain the Solaris 10 Entitlement Document
If System Acquired From a Source Other Than Sun or Its
Partners customer must obtain the Solaris 10 software and register the system to obtain the Solaris 10 Entitlement Document
Upgrades:
1. Annual Support Contract, help is included

Licensing
Solaris 10 licenses are free for all systems on a Sun support contract
A free license for Solaris 10 can be obtained for all other systems by installing the Solaris 10 software
and registering the system via the Sun Download Center
Systems purchased after 4/01/02 from Sun and Sun authorized
channels are licensed to run any current versions of Solaris (8, or 9, select one at time of purchase)
If Covered by a Sun Support Contract all upgrades to Solaris
9 are included
If Not Covered by a Sun Support Contract:
Existing systems purchased from Sun or Sun authorized resellers can
upgrade to Solaris 9 by purchasing upgrade license
