Sun's Solaris Adoption Services program aids customers in migrating their Solaris environments to the latest technology releases. As part of the program, Sun is providing the Solaris Application Guarantee. Appcert is a major component of the Solaris 8 Application Guarantee Test Suite. Developers will find the program's white paper "Building Longevity into Solaris Operating System Applications" (PDF) useful.

The current Solaris ABI tools, appcert and apptrace, are a mature part of the Solaris Operating System. The Solaris ABI Program's goal is for the next generation of ABI technology to work on both Solaris and Linux; to that end, Sun has released a next-generation prototype, abicheck, to the open source community under the LGPL.
