Most Current Release

• As with earlier versions, several Solaris 10 update releases are planned to come out prior to the next Solaris version.
• The latest update release is Solaris 10 10/09.

Note 1: Previous versions of Solaris 10 are no longer necessary as the latest release includes support for all Solaris 10 supported platforms and includes important enhancements not found in earlier releases.

Note 2: Certain systems or configurations may still require or recommend use of the previous Solaris 10 updates which are still available for download as DVD (SPARC, x64/x86) or CD (SPARC, x64/x86) images:

Other Shipping Releases

• The latest update is Solaris 9 9/05.
• On April 15 2008, Sun communicated the pre-notification of the upcoming Solaris 9 Operating System End of Life transition to customers and partners. For more information, read the FAQ.
• On April 28, 2009, Sun announced the Solaris 9 Operating System End of Life transition to customers and partners. The Solaris 9 Operating Environment will stop shipping on October 30, 2009 and End of Support Life is targeted for October 30, 2014.
• Sun Microsystems will discontinue sales of Solaris 9 certification exams on January 31, 2010. The last date to take all Solaris 9 certification exams will be March 31, 2010. More details on 'Discontinued Exams'

Non-Shipping Releases that are Supported

• The latest update is Solaris 8 2/04.
• The Solaris 8 Operating Environment stopped shipping on February 16, 2007 and is currently at the Vintage Phase II support level.
  • Transition to Vintage Phase II support level was on April 1, 2009.
  • End of service life will be March 31, 2012.
