Trusted Solaris Operating System - Technical FAQs

Question

How do I get Trusted Solaris patches? And how do I know which patches to install? Should I install Solaris patches on Trusted Solaris hosts? Or install Trusted Solaris patches on Solaris?

Answer

Install only Trusted Solaris patches on Trusted Solaris hosts. Do not install Solaris patches on Trusted Solaris hosts or install Trusted Solaris patches on Solaris hosts, unless directed to do so by Trusted Solaris CTE or Sustaining Engineers, or by one of the Trusted Solaris FAQ's.

NOTE: Sometimes a procedure on the Trusted Solaris FAQ pages instructs you to install a Solaris patch. Exceptions to the rule are allowed only when the patch affects a part of the system that has not been changed for Trusted Solaris (such as a device driver newly-installed with a recently-released framebuffer) and when the patch has been tested and proved to work.

Customers with Sun Spectrum contracts can access all Trusted Solaris patches 24 hours a day through SunSolve Online at http://sunsolve.sun.com. Sales representative can order patches for contract customers, or customers can download patches themselves using ftp(1) from sunsolve.sun.com, login: sunsolve, password: sunmicro. Contract customers are then prompted for their SunSolve Online account and password to be entered on a single line, separated by a slash.
