Trusted Solaris Operating System - Technical FAQs

Question

When I try to install the standard Solaris 2.5.x or 2.6 operating environment on a system previously installed with Trusted Solaris, the system panics. Why?

Answer

A bug (which was fixed in Solaris 7) causes a panic when the Solaris installation program tries to configure filesystems on disk partitions previously installed with Trusted Solaris. If you need to install an earlier version than Solaris 7, the workaround described under Procedure prevents the Solaris 2.x ufs code from misinterpreting the Trusted Solaris 2.x ufs file system.

Procedure
  1. Boot from the Solaris CD-ROM.
  2. As soon as the window system comes up, bring up a command tool, cmdtool(1), from the window's root menu.
  3. Run format(1M) on the disks.
