Solstice CMIP 9.0

   Data Sheet

Solstice CMIP 9.0 provides a standard software platform for the development of TMN applications and a runtime environment which significantly lowers the cost of agent deployment. This release follows Sun's strategy for TMN deployment.

Solstice CMIP 9.0 is the foundation of the Solstice Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) product family. It is the CMIP protocol for other Solstice TMN products such as Solstice Enterprise Manager, Solstice TMN Agent Toolkit, Solstice TMN Agent Tester, Solstice TMN/SNMP Q-Adaptor, and Solstice TMNscript.

Solstice CMIP is the ideal solution for system integrators and telecommunications equipment manufacturers who want to develop CMIP-based management applications for their products and to deploy these applications to their customer base.

Solstice CMIP 9.0 is a integral component within the Solstice Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) product family. This new release of Solstice CMIP adds full support of Solaris 8 (and above) Operating Environment with 64-bit support, and of the TLI (Transport Level Interface) API over TCP/IP through the RFC1006.
Solstice CMIP enables the development and deployment of TMN applications and is delivered as two related products:
  • The Solstice CMIP Standard Development Environment (SDE) includes the X/OpenĀ® CAE Specification OSI-Abstract-Data Manipulation (XOM) and X/Open CAE Specification Systems Management Protocols (XMP) libraries, which are used to develop management applications that conform to the TMN management model. The Solstice CMIP SDE includes a runtime version of Solstice CMIP for testing developed applications.
  • Solstice CMIP Runtime (RT) is a standard implementation of the Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) and the Common Management Information Service (CMIS). When it is combined with the SunLink OSI Communications Platform, Solstice CMIP RT forms a TMN Q3 Stack and supports any application developed using Solstice CMIP SDE. However, Solstice CMIP RT also includes an Internet-ready RFC1006 driver, which means that agents can also be deployed on TCP/IP without the added expense of an OSI Stack.

Features
The principle features of Solstice CMIP include:
  • A comprehensive systems management platform based on the Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) and the Common Management Information Service (CMIS).
  • A complete software development environment, for systems management agents, based on industry-standard, object-oriented APIs.
  • Low-cost agent deployment based on the RFC 1006 driver incorporated in Solstice CMIP RT.
  • Solaris 8 SPARC
  • Support for concurrent connections over X.25, OSI, and TCP/IP-based local area networks such as Ethernet and FDDI.
  • A Graphical User Interface for the configuration and administration of Solstice CMIP Runtime.
  • Enhanced tracing facilities to aid troubleshooting and statistics collection.

Product Conformance
Solstice CMIP conforms to the following specifications:
  • ISO-IS-9595 Version 2 Common Management Information Service (CMIS) (CCITT X.710).
  • ISO-IS-9596 Version 2 Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) (CCITT X.711).
  • ISO 10040 Systems Management Overview (CCITT X.701).
  • ISO 10165-1 Structure of Management Information (SMI) (CCITT X.720).
The application programming interface to Solstice CMIP is defined by the following publications:
  • X/Open Systems Management-Management Protocols (XMP) API (March 1994).
  • X/Open OSI-Abstract-Data Manipulation (XOM) API (November 1991).
