Facilitating Development of TMN Information Models
Solstice GDMO (Guidelines for the Definition of Managed Objects) Builder is a set of software tools designed to facilitate the rapid development of reliable, standard TMN manager and agent applications.

Solstice GDMO Builder is the ideal solution for building the GDMO/ASN.1 (Abstract Syntax Notation) information model needed in the first phase of a TMN project. The GDMO/ASN.1 model defines managed objects, their properties, and the relationships between them. A complete GDMO/ASN.1 specification for a system may be extremely complex, involving hundreds of interrelated templates. Specifying a complete and consistent system by hand is therefore a complex and time-consuming task.

he advanced graphical user interface of Solstice GDMO Builder hides the complexity of GDMO and ASN.1 definitions, making it easier to design, browse, and edit accurate, conformant object models. Automatic-checking features ensure the consistency of the resulting definitions.

Solstice GDMO Builder generates GDMO and ASN.1 files which can be used by other products in the Solstice Telecommunications Management product set, for example, Solstice Enterprise Manager, Solstice TMN Agent Toolkit, Solstice TMN Agent Tester and Solstice TMNscript.

Key Benefits
  • By hiding the complex GDMO/ASN.1 syntax, Solstice GDMO Builder improves the productivity of developers, enabling them to concentrate on the model they are developing, rather than getting lost in the details of syntax.
  • Solstice GDMO Builder's syntactic and semantic checking tools help eliminate errors well before the implementation stage of the development project.
  • All definitions are stored in a central object dictionary - with multi-user access - so that teams can work simultaneously on different areas of the model. This flexible approach also facilitates the re-use of existing models or parts of models.
  • Conformance documents can be generated automatically. These act as formal specifications for implementors.

Product Components
  • The Model Editor makes it easy to view and edit GDMO/ASN.1 templates by hiding the details of the syntax and displaying the object model's various features graphically. It gives various views of the model, supporting different levels of abstraction.
  • A Central Object Dictionary, running on a relational database with multi-user access, provides central storage of all object classes and GDMO/ASN.1 templates. It comes with standard GDMO/ASN.1 documents, including M3100, X.721, and Q.821, and enables documents to be imported and exported in ASCII format.
  • A Semantic Checker allows the completeness and accuracy of the object definitions to be verified at any stage of the design process.
  • The Proforma Generator produces proforma reports such as Management Conformance Statements (MCS), Managed Object Conformance Statements (MOCS), and Management Information Definition Statements (MIDS), following the ISO/IEC 10165-6 standard.
