   Data Sheet

Solstice TMN Agent Tester takes the stress out of the entire development and testing cycle, while at the same time shortening it drastically. It allows CMIP agents to be tested in isolation before they are deployed with CMIP managers. It can also be used for in-depth testing and troubleshooting of existing CMIP agents.

The comprehensive test functions of Solstice TMN Agent Tester cover the test requirements of the development, integration, test and deployment phases of TMN development projects.

Key Benefits
  • Reduces the cost of TMN agent development by automating and speeding up the testing cycle.
  • Test and validation criteria can be defined manually, or generated automatically from GDMO/ASN.1 agent specifications.
  • Graphical user interface makes it easy to compose and run tests, and to interpret the results.
  • Interactivity between the different editor functions allows information to be dragged and dropped from one to another, which saves time and simplifies specification tasks.
  • Built around Solstice TMNscript, which provides ease-of-use, flexibility, and easy integration with existing development tools.

Graphical Tools
Solstice TMN Agent Tester's graphical user interface offers the following advantages:
  • The syntactic complexity of GDMO/ASN.1 is hidden by powerful graphical editors; the GDMO OID Selector and the ASN.1 Value Editor. These allow intuitive and effective definition and manipulation of GDMO information and ASN.1 values.
  • The Target MIT Editor allows you to describe the MIT of the agent under test, graphically. MIT objects can also be acquired from the agent, using a discover function.
  • The Request Composer allows you to build CMIS test requests (Get, Set, Create, Delete, Action, Cancel Get) graphically.
  • The Reply Viewer, for use during interactive tests, allows you to see the result of each test graphically and store these for later analysis.
  • An Event Report Browser allows you to view event reports, which are stored in an ASCII file.
  • The Reference Editor facilitates formal verification of replies and events received from the agent during batch testing.

Testing Capabilities
Solstice Agent Tester performs the following types of tests:

Batch-mode tests
  • These allow test suites to be run against the agent.
  • The Test Generator takes the initial GDMO and ASN.1 information model for the agent, and from it automatically produces a set of tests which simulate all managed object class (MOC) properties. In this way the agent's conformance with the GDMO and ASN.1 standards is tested.
For each test, the Test Generator also produces validation criteria for automatic verification by the Reply Checker.
  • A Batch Tester engine plays test scenarios and suites, and gathers the results in log files.
  • The Reply Checker verifies the test results, and reports whether each test passed or failed, according to the pre-established validation criteria.
Interactive tests
  • CMIS requests can be created graphically and sent to an agent under development.
  • The CMIS Request Composer allows the developer to create new tests or edit existing tests (for example, tests which have been generated automatically by the Test Generator). The developer can send requests to the agent, or store them for later use as part of a test scenario.
  • The Reply Viewer enables test results to be checked easily.
Event testing
  • The Test Generator can also generate tests of expected events. Event reports can be logged to an ASCII file, and later viewed using the Event Report Browser.
Stress and performance tests
  • A programmatic script API allows user-specific test scenarios to be created.
