SunTone is Sun's quality of service delivery and management initiative, designed to help customers reduce unplanned downtime through a unique industry collaborative effort to define best practices, policies, and procedures to meet demanding service level requirements. Additionally, SunTone helps drives business value for Sun's customers by helping them address the requirements of their own customers. SunTone helps improve availability by addressing people, process, and IT management policies that cause the 80% of unplanned downtime that is unrelated to hardware, operating system, and environmental factors. SunTone helps customers achieve availability goals through process controls and management, and provides customers with operational best practices, such as the use of well-defined service-level agreements and disciplined change management practices, that are critical to service availability. These best practices, policies and procedures, as defined in the SunTone Service Delivery Specification, govern the architecture, implementation, and management of a solution, guide delivery frameworks and help ensure quality outcome. Customers can assess their environments against SunTone standards for high quality service delivery.
