GNOME 2.0 Desktop requires that specific system patches be
installed to ensure proper operation. Many of these are installed
automatically by the GNOME installer. Check the GNOME 2.0 Patches page for
a complete list of required patches, including those that you may
have to install manually.
Note that several new patches have just been made available for
the English release of GNOME 2.0 Desktop. You can download them
from SunSolve. Here are the
patch numbers:
Solaris 9 OE / x86 Edition: 112786-04, 114015-04, 114034-02,
114201-01, 114277-01, 114313-01, 114568-02, 114687-01, 114689-01,
114691-01, 114693-01, 114695-01
Note that you will also need approximately 600 Mbytes of
additional free disk space for the downloaded file and the install
image directory. These files can be deleted after installation to
recover the space.
Support
Sun Microsystems has support options available for the Solaris
Operating Environment, which now encompass the GNOME 2.0 Desktop.
See the GNOME 2.0

Downloading the GNOME 2.0 Desktop Software
Note that root access to your system is required to install the
software. See the Installation Instructions
document for the steps required to install the software.
Important. We have just become
aware of a security vulnerability in the GNOME Print Manager which
could allow unauthorized reading of files. To resolve this issue,
after installation of GNOME 2.0, execute the following command (as
root user):
Doing this will prevent you from inspecting the contents of the
GNOME print queue. We will soon supply a patch to restore this
functionality. Please monitor our Patches & Support page
to learn about all GNOME-related patches available from Sun.
Note: The GNOME 2.0 Desktop software is available in
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Swedish, Simplified
Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian
Portuguese, Polish, and Russian. Follow the instructions you will
see after clicking the Download Now links below in order to select
and install the specific language(s) you desire.
Please extract the preceeding localized components in a
different directory from where the English GNOME software is
downloaded. Localized components will overwrite existing English
install/remove scripts when the downloaded tar file is extracted in
same directory.
