Access & Mine Information
Powerful Connectivity
Keep your options open. StarSuite 8 Base gives you a choice of 11 database formats, including Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server (via JDBC and ODBC), dBase, Access (Windows only), and Adabas D. Excel and text files, and Mozilla and Windows address books, drop right in. Here are two new features.
- New SQL functions are now available: all numeric, string and datetime functions specified in the SQL92 standard for dBASE, flat file, and spreadsheet databases.
- Improved interface to ADO (Access/SQL Server) data sources lets you choose from a list of ADO database connections, clean and simple. (Note: ADO is not available on Solaris OS or Linux.)
Tables
Tables are the best way to organize database query results, and they don't have to be hard to build. StarSuite Base's new database table wizard leads you through the steps to create sophisticated tables quickly. More than 30 predefined table schemas keep you on track, so you don't forget any important table attributes.
Queries
An easy-to-use and familiar query editor lets you create clean SQL-compatible queries—no SQL knowledge required.
Forms
Base's Forms wizard helps you create forms and subforms to input, monitor, and update information. Give your forms a consistent design by leveraging Base templates.
Reports
Use Base's reporting wizard to compile and summarize your data, so you can print or share it with others. Dozens of reporting templates and styles help you create professional-looking reports with ease.
Enhanced LDAP Authentication
You can now connect StarSuite to an LDAP server using secure sockets layer (SSL). It's one important way to keep the data in your StarSuite files secure.
