Sun Ray Server Software

Acts as a broadcaster, delivering customized content to each Sun Ray client on the network. Channel 1 might be Microsoft Windows, Channel 2 might be Linux, and Channel 3 might be the Solaris OS. It provides user authentication and encryption between server and client, as well as user session management. This not only enhances security, but also helps reduce complexity and administration of the IT environment. Sun Ray Server Software provides automatic load balancing, optimizing performance by distributing sessions across servers in the group. Load balancing takes into account each server's load and capacity - the number and speed of its CPUs - so that larger or less heavily loaded servers bear more of the load.

Sun Ray Connector for Windows

The Sun Ray Connector for Windows directly connects to Microsoft Windows Terminal Server.

Display Full-Screen Windows: With the controlled access mode of Sun Ray Software, you can lock down the screen to display Windows only desktop, giving you all the great security and mobility benefits of Sun Ray technology for full-screen Windows. And, it gets better.

Authenticate Windows Applications with a Smart Card: Each Sun Ray Virtual Display Client has a built-in smart-card reader for consistent and secure hot-desking mobility. Now with the Sun Ray Connector for Windows and partner middleware, such as ActivClient from ActivIdentity, you can not only hot desk your Windows session, but also use that same smart-card reader to do two-factor authentication to Windows, digitally sign e-mail or documents, and encrypt or decrypt documents. Smart card-based authentication is an essential building block for enterprise security.

Get More Windows Features: The Sun Ray Connector for Windows supports USB flash disks, external hard drives, and other mass storage devices directly in the Windows environment. Also, you can take advantage of its remote control capabilities to let a system administrator troubleshoot or train an employee while sharing the same Windows Terminal Server Session.

Sun Desktop Manager

Now, system administrators can add a securely configured open source desktop environment to Sun Ray Virtual Display Clients. System administrators manage centralized privilege and policy controls to ensure secure user access to data and applications based on each user's authenticated identity.

Manage Applications Centrally: The Java Desktop System on Solaris is composed of several open source components, including GNOME, Mozilla, and StarOffice. Using its integrated Desktop Manager, system administrators can configure over 900 different preferences within these applications. For example, you can centrally customize the launch menu or desktop icons, change proxy settings for Mozilla, restrict Internet surfing for certain employees or departments, and change defaults for StarOffice. It really saves the time you spend improving employee productivity and system security.

Leverage Your Existing Directory Infrastructure: Desktop Manager is a highly flexible tool that can connect to LDAP or Active Directory data repositories, without any changes to the corporate directory schema. For small deployments or testing a flat file, use the repository.

Add-on Components

Sun Ray Connector for VMware View Manager allows Sun Ray users to connect to Windows virtual machines via the VMware View Manager.

Smart Card authentication with PC/SC-Lite 1.1 enables access to smart cards via USB readers or Sun Ray readers.
