Objective

Outline of criteria for entry into Solaris Ready Program for (NAS) Network Attached Storage for all Sun platforms

The Storage Network Industry Association www.snia.org defines network Attached Storage (NAS ) as storage elements that connect to a network and provide file access service to computers systems.  Internet RFC/STD/FYI/BCP Archives list RFC 3720 - Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI),   RFC 3721 - Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) Naming and Discovery,   RFC 3722 - String Profile for Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) Names, and RFC 3723 - Securing Block Storage Protocols over IP documents.

Goals of the Program include qualifying  products for the Solaris Ready Program, promoting customer awareness, and enabling identification and selection of high quality add-on  products for Sun's platform customers.

A Storage Subsystem element consists of an engine, which implements the file services, and one or more devices on which data is stored. Sun Solaris Ready Program shall add the additional criteria to Storage Subsystem products.

Company Criteria:

1. Channel distribution, service and support in geographies worldwide.
2. Ability to provide vendor updates.
3. Agreement to support newer versions of the Solaris OS in a timely manner (where applicable).
4. Acquire Sun platforms for the development and support of the Solaris OS.

Product Criteria:

1. Meet the Solaris Ready Platform Support, Installation Criteria, Diagnostics, Additional Criteria as listed below.
2. Include appropriate cables as required.
3. Ensure documentation describes installation.
4. Documentation for updates and patches on company website or CD-ROM.
5. Include sufficient packaging materials and other materials unique to the product.


Product Support:

1. Make pre-sales specification and product information available on line.
2. Provide product warranty and technical support information.
3. Provide a supported Sun system configuration list in a format acceptable to data entry in Sun's configuration tools, including supported system configurations and known restrictions or conflicts.

Platform Support:

1. Storage subsystems product must be operable on all Sun platforms.
2. The duty cycle shall be applicable for the product type for 48 continuous hours.


Installation Criteria:

1. 10/100/1000/10000 ethernet connection.
2. Embedded OS.
3. IP assignment must be simple for end user to configure.

Diagnostics:

1. Self diagnostic to isolate failure.
2. User level diagnostic for end user use.

Additional Criteria:

1. The Solaris Ready Test Plan (NAS,iSCSI) Products shall be used.
2. Packaging configuration.
3. Disk capacity.
4. Number of disks and interface.
5. Support of different size disks.
6. Hot Swap of drives.
7. Raid Level support.
8. Load balanced / failover.
9. Power Supplys.
10. UPS signal support.
11. Other I/O connections.
