1. Q: What is the Solaris Ready Program?

The Solaris Ready Program is a Sun effort to allow customers to readily identify third-party products developed for Sun network computing environment as having met specific Program standards for vendor support, ease-of-installation, use, management, and network interoperability. When a product displays the Solaris Ready Logo, it has earned the right to proudly display the achievement of having met all of the testing requirements of the Solaris Ready Program.

2. Q: What products qualify for the Program?

Participation is offered on a per-product basis, and not for an entire company. The Solaris Ready Program currently offers testing for the following product types:

3. Q: What are the key objectives of the Program?

The Logo provides a confident identification of a third-party's offering's interoperability on Sun's Solaris Platforms. The Program provides a process for customers to determine the product reliability and quality delivery. The Solaris Ready Logo emphasizes the Program participant's commitment to ensuring top-level service and support.

4. Q: How does a company get started in submitting a desired product for testing under the Solaris Ready Program?

All potential third-party developers are encouraged to submit an on-line nomination form for Program consideration. To begin the nomination process for a companies product into the Solaris Ready Program.

Independent Hardware Vendors (IHVs) or vendors specializing in specific hardware device and Original equipment manufacturers can fill out the on-line Request for Nomination form or contact the Solaris Ready Program administrator.

Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) or vendors specializing in software applications can fill out the on-line Request for Nomination form or contact the Solaris Ready Program administrator.

The forms requires brief company and product profile which initiates Sun Business Case Review upon successful submission.

5. Q: Will Sun provide technical support for Program participants' products?

While Sun continuously promotes and markets the Solaris Ready logo to enable customers to understand the important advantages of choosing third-party products, responsibility for product service and support resides with the owner of each product successfully tested under the Program.

Program Eligibility

1. Q: Who is eligible to participate in the Program?

Any company is eligible to apply to the Solaris Ready Program. Companies or individuals who are willing to develop and support their products on Sun's Solaris platforms are encouraged to individually submit on-line nominations to initiate the eligibility consideration process. To begin the nomination of your products into the Solaris Ready Program.

2. Q: How many products can be submitted to the Program?

There is no limitation to the number of products a company may submit for consideration.

3. Q: How long does the Business Case and Technical Evaluation review take before nomination or denial is determined?

While we estimate the Business Case Review time frame to be three to four weeks generally, some evaluations may take longer to complete. In particular instances, additional research is required for the validation of a decision.

4.Q: What are the costs associated with testing a product under the Solaris Ready Program?

For products tested by a Solaris Ready independent testing laboratory, variations in testing fee differ with product type. Upon review of the on-line submission, product type is determined. For a quote of the current testing pricing, please send your inquiry to: independent testing laboratory.

5. Q: Who defines the Solaris Ready Program testing criteria?

There are testing requirements for each product type. Testing criteria covering areas such as platforms, operating systems, install/uninstall, performance, documentation, connectivity requirement, and specific features, are listed under the Solaris Ready Program Product Types. The Solaris Ready Program Office, a group comprised of Sun Microsystems, Inc. personnel specializing in defining the most comprehensive Solaris Platforms performance analysis, develops the testing methodologies used for testing.

6. Q: Will all products be nominated for Solaris Ready testing?

No. Each product will be subject to extensive review during the Business Case and Technical Evaluation prior to nomination. Whether a product is nominated for participation in the Program or not is in Sun's sole discretion, and Sun's decision is final.
