Avnet Clarity Technology works with partners on pilot projects to ensure that proposed solutions will deliver their intended business objectives when deployed - eliminating the risk of the solution for the end user.

Partners can utilise the facilities of the Avnet Clarity Technology centers to hold 'on-line' remote application trials, actually accessing and testing applications running on Avnet servers.

Overview

The Avnet Clarity Technology centers have changed considerably since Avnet acquired Horizon Group in July 2008. The focus of the two centers, one in Warrington and the other in Bracknell provided a different set of solutions and customer needs prior to the takeover. Where as the Warrington centre was primarily focussed on solutions, POC's with more hands on approach, the Bracknell centre was more focussed on a showcase, and training environment.

The structure of how the solutions and projects are managed has also changed such that the infrastructure is managed and maintained to provide a stable and suitable platform for the business to deliver best of breed and industry leading solutions.

As part of the running and management of the centers, we use the Sun technologies to provide a 'green' approach to deployment, where we work with the other areas of the business such as IBM, EMC & Nortel to provide a just in time deployment model. With the use of Sun's ILOM and virtualization technologies, we are able to have the systems powered off in standby mode when they are not being used, but can re-deploy and start-up any of the applications in-time for a demo or solution deployment. This then reduces the impact on the centers as well as showing the customers the management capabilities of the Sun systems.

As part of The Resource's capability we have also use the centres to build solutions for partners, so that these partners are able to showcase the technology themselves.

In summary the Solution Centers (Resources as they are branded) provide technology solutions areas that we have worked with contain the following elements:

  • Sun Hardware X86, Cool threads & SPARC infrastructure running standard solution demonstrations
  • Sun Storage Architecture including entry & mid range modular storage & storage switch fabric architecture
  • Sun Open storage platforms
  • Sun Tape and Virtual Tape technologies and third party software
  • Virtualization technology showcase including VmWare, Virtual Iron
  • Virtual Desk top infrastructure including Sun Remote VDI demonstration facilities
  • Third party Demonstrations including Commvault, Symantec, VmWare, Microsoft, G10 and EMC
  • Reseller Showcases, providing solutions and infrastructure for the resellers to develop and deliver and bring their own solutions to market
