Q: Does Sun develop the course curriculum?
A:
Yes, Sun has developed both instructor and student guides for each course.
Q: Are there any restrictions on the number of hours that instructor-led courses can be delivered?
A:
Each Sun Academic Initiative partner, Academic Initiative course may be delivered a maximum of 12 hours of combined instruction and structured lab time per week.
Q: How do faculty prepare to teach classes?
A:
There are two ways that faculty can prepare to deliver SAI content.
Q: Are there minimum and maximum class enrollment sizes?
A:
Minimum and Maximum enrollments for classes will be determined by the academic institutions and not by Sun. Sun recommends a maximum enrollment of 25 students per course.
Q: What are the Academic Services available through SAI Learning Connection?
A:
As a registered faculty member or student you will have access to the entire SAI Learning Connection modules in your curriculum path in Java, Solaris, Sun ONE or StarOffice.
Q: Where can students take a certification exam?
A:
Sun certification exams are given at Prometric Authorized Testing Centers located worlwide.
Q: Can you retake certification exams if you do not pass the first time? Is there a limit to the number of times you can take the exams?
A:
Currently exams may be taken an unlimited number of times, but the exam fee must be paid for each time you take the exam, and you must wait the specified amount of time before retaking the exam.
Q: I'm a Sun Academic Initiative participant, but I've lost my access code (Program Name and Program ID) how do I retrieve it?
A:
Simply, send an email with the following information:
Name of your InstitutionAnd Contact SAI will email you the Welcome Packet. Q: I've recently applied to become a Sun Academic Initiative participant. How much time does it take to receive my Welcome Packet?
A:
If the application has been properly completed, the approval and subsequent Welcome Packet deliverance take 1/2 days (reactivated applicants) or about 1 week (new applicants).
Q: What is the difference between the commercial Sun certification tests and the Sun Academic Initiative tests?
A:
The only difference is the test number. The commercial tests begin with "CX-310" and the Sun Academic Initiative tests begin with "CX-212". They are the same tests and lead to the same certification. However, at this discounted price, you will not be receiving the lapel pin, logo and the wallet card. If these are needed you will have to take the exam at the commercial price.
Q: Is it necessary to set apply for credit and use purchase orders with Gilmore in order to purchase course books and other items?
A:
No, as long as you are an approved institution in the Sun Academic Initiative program you may choose to purchase using a credit card in which case you wouldn't need to complete the credit application. If you notify Gilmore that you only want to pay for orders using a credit
card, you do not need to submit the credit application or purchase order. However, if you will not be using a credit card, you do need to submit a credit application and purchase order.
Q: I've already submitted my application, what happens next?
A:
The Sun Academic Initiative program management reviews the application and approves or rejects it. It takes about two weeks to process applications due to the high volume of applications. Applicants will receive notice status of their application via email. If approved, the academic institution is officially recognized as a program participant by the designation of 'SAI' (Sun Academic Initiative Institution) and will receive the Welcome Packet via email with:

Sun develops training using in-house Industry experts that understand products that are used in businesses today. By utilizing their curriculum, you can add material to enhance your classroom experience.
Q: Can I use the materials in addition to current courseware I am teaching?
A:
Yes, Sun wants to make sure that Instructors have access to courseware that can be integrated into their current content or can be used as stand-alone training.
Q: How can I find out what courses are available?

Q: How can I qualify to request materials?
A:
You can submit the Sun Academic Initiative (SAI) School Application and supplementary ILT Application
(SAI will review your application and determine your eligibility. Not all Institutions will be accepted into the program - Sun Learning Services has the right to accept or decline an application).
The SAI-ILT Program is designed for undergraduate educational institutions (including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges/universities and graduate schools. Q: What language are the course materials available in?

At this time the SAI-ILT courses are only available in English.
Q: Does an Instructor need to be Sun certified before teaching the Sun courses?

No, It is not a requirement that the instructor/ teacher is certified before teaching the courses.
