Up to 247 PB of heterogeneous storage can now be managed via a single console and a common set of StorageTek 9990V tools. This allows for massive storage consolidation and provides single point management across a vast pool of heterogeneous storage resources.

Sun StorageTek Universal Volume Manager software enables up to 247 PB of non-disruptive data migration across heterogeneous environments within the virtualized pool without risk. The StorageTek 9990V also fully support VMware ESX for added flexibility and reduced TCO.

Thin Provisioning

Sun StorageTek Dynamic Provisioning software provides enterprise-level thin provisioning, enabling you to reduce the overall cost of storage by deploying less physical capacity initially and adding more disks as needed, transparently. This greatly improves storage utilization and reduces power and cooling requirements while allowing for just-in-time capacity upgrades.

Simplified provisioning

As a result of this just-in-time method, storage allocations can exceed the amount of storage that is physically installed. The software also decouples the provisioning of storage to an application from the physical addition of storage capacity to the storage system, simplifying the provisioning process and enabling non-disruptive capacity upgrades.

With Dynamic Provisioning software, application storage provisioning is simpler, faster, and less demanding than traditional provisioning. You can draw from the Dynamic Provisioning pool without immediately adding physical disks. When the time comes to add physical storage, you can simply and non-disruptively install additional disks by adding them to the Dynamic Provisioning disk pool.
