Sun Storage J4400 Array

The new Sun Storage J4000 family is a set "cost-effective" building blocks for Open Storage used to create an open, flexible storage infrastructure when combined with Sun's industry leading servers. These products will drive Open Storage adoption by providing an economical, scalable, and reliable platform that enables a new cost efficient architecture by which the data is managed by the Solaris software stack and in the near future where combining system design with enhanced open software allows customers to dramatically increase application performance while reducing the power consumption of the disk subsystem by up to 5x when using Flash based technologies.

The intent of the power calculator is to provide guidance for estimating the electrical power consumption and heat dissipation for the JBOD system. This data represents a typical JBOD system functioning in a normal operating environment. It should not be used to calculate power or HVAC requirements. Instead, please use the appropriate site planning guide to allow for proper allowances.

You MUST allow electrical and cooling headroom for unforeseen circumstances, component upgrades, and increased workloads. Please allow for worst-case power conditions. Actual power consumption will vary from the sample workload used in the power calculator. These include, but are not limited to, the factors below. Each of these factors may cause significant differences in power consumption. For precise results, actual measurements based upon the exact HW/SW/Environmental conditions are recommended.

  • Actual workload and its fluctuations
  • Ambient temperature
  • Cooling patterns
  • Humidity
  • Power management settings
