The Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array minimizes the cost of your secondary or near-line storage, offering significantly faster data access when compared to tape libraries. This array offers redundant hot-swappable components and support for most open systems hosts. In addition, it shares a common management GUI, common performance tuning features, common management features, common configuration features, common setup features, common local and remote control features, as well as many hardware components, with the other Sun StorageTek 3000 Family arrays. Simple, reliable. cost-effective.
SAN switches save money
The Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA array offers more than twice the number of FC host ports than the competition, with 12 FC host and 4 FC expansion ports, allowing connectivity of up to 12 servers, or 6 servers in a redundant configuration with expansion. These additional host ports eliminate the need for costly external SAN switches and their attendant cabling, reducing complexity and management overhead. Better yet, they save the significant long-term energy cost of powering and cooling switches, big contributors to data center heat loads.

The Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array supports up to 6 TB per single 2U array. It's expandable up to 54 TB via 8 expansion trays.

Up to twelve 250 or 500 GB SATA drives.
RAID array tray configurations
2U tray supports JBOD, single RAID controller, or dual hot-swap redundant RAID controllers; AC or DC power supplies; holds 5 to 12 disk drives; and is expandable to support up to five 2 RU expansion trays (72 drives total). Up to nineteen trays can be supported within a single rack cabinet for 91.2 TB of raw capacity (228 drives total).

It's cleared for land vehicles, planes, and ships. It also does an exceptional job of protecting and delivering your customer's data under "normal" conditions.

Serviceability that saves time
The Sun StorageTek 3511 FC SATA array is an extremely reliable storage system designed with redundant, hot-swappable field-replaceable units (FRUs) for easy serviceability. The FRUs include disk drives, RAID controllers, power supplies/fans, Lithium/Ion batteries, and health and status LEDs. You can pull them from the front or rear of the system. In addition, the array firmware can be upgraded nondisruptively, eliminating downtime for firmware upgrades.
