Sun StorageTek Availability Suite Software

Sun StorageTek Availability Suite

Features and Benefits

The combination of point-in-time copy and remote mirroring found in StorageTek Availability Suite software provides you with a solid foundation for a data-continuance environment, and improve time to recovery for your mission- and business-critical data.

Key Benefits:

  • Faster time to recovery
  • Protects against disaster and unplanned downtime
  • Shrinks backup windows

Easy Evaluation and Acquisition
Fast implementation StorageTek Availability Suite software is designed and packaged to facilitate easy evaluation, acquisition, and implementation in Sun server, Solaris Operating System (OS), and Sun StorageTek environments.

Ships with 60-day evaluation license The software ships with a 60-day evaluation license and bundles a 1-terabyte (TB) license with Sun StorageTek 6120 and 6320 storage systems. The software combines point-in-time copy and remote mirroring functionality in a data services software package that simplifies ordering, delivers value, and forms the basis of an effective data continuance strategy.
Data Continuance
Point-n-time copy ensures data access StorageTek Availability Suite’s point-in-time copy software helps you deliver continuous data access. The software allows capture of live data for independent read-and-write purposes. What’s more, you can access a point-in-time copy while other operations, such as backup, data recovery, application testing, database extracts, data migration, or data warehouse loading, occur in parallel, without disrupting production application access and operation.

Remote mirroring protects your assets Remote mirroring protects your information assets from unplanned downtime and disasters by replicating data between multiple, physically separated servers, in real time, and from any distance. The software supports both synchronous and asynchronous modes of operation, and volumes can be updated synchronously in real time or asynchronously using a store-and-forward technique. In the event of a planned or unplanned outage, the remote mirroring capability maintains per device bitmap volumes that are marked to indicate changed blocks with a granularity of 32 kilobytes (KB) per segment. This optimizes resynchronization because the software only has to resynch the blocks that have changed.
Simplified Management
Easy command line interface StorageTek Availability Suite’s point-in-time copy and remote mirror features utilize a simple command line interface (CLI), that enables you to configure the software in many different ways. This lets you take advantage of the flexibility provided by a rich set of capabilities. Plus, you can use the CLI to automate operation through scripting.

Volume grouping The point-in-time copy software's volume grouping function allows you to control sets as a single unit. This enables you to maintain write ordering, volume consistency, and configuration simplicity.

Export/import/join functionality With StorageTek Availability Suite, applications such as backup, testing and development, and data analysis can be offloaded to a separate host, freeing upo resources on the primary server.

Compact-dependent shadows Compact point-in-time copies are smaller than master volumes, and they enable you reduce the storage space required for shadow copies, reducing TCO.

Storage-independent operation The point-in-time copy software found in StorageTek Availability Suite software works with any storage device, including non-Sun storage systems supported by the Solaris OS, protecting your existing investment.

I/O grouping I/O grouping enables volume sets to be controlled as a single unit, maintaining write ordering, volume consistency, and configuration simplicity.
Flexibility
Implement according to your needs Sun StorageTek Availability Suite's remote mirror software provides implementation flexibility, allowing you to leverage the software for continuous data availability while required processes such as scheduled maintenance, remote backups, data migrations, remote data analysis, and other critical functions are performed.

Replicate data over distance Remote mirror software's ability to replicate data between physically separate servers - in real time and from any distance gives you the flexibility to deploy multiple disaster recovery sites, decentralize data across different sites for load balancing and application performance, and consolidate multiple production environments.

Synchronize data according your needs In addition, the software allows you to synchronize data in a forward (primary to secondary) or reverse direction, providing flexibility to address varying application requirements. The software synchronizes data in five modes, including:
  • Full synchronization
  • Fast resynchronization (update)
  • Reverse synchronization
  • Fast reverse synchronization (reverse update)
  • Logging
Sun StorageTek Availability Suite remote mirror software also provides a choice of automatic or manual synchronization after a scheduled or unscheduled link failure. With the software's automatic method, synchronization occurs automatically when a link is re-established. You can also use manual synchronization for greater control and intervention.
