NetVault: Backup creates a virtual tape library—stocked with drives, slots, and media—on disk. Your backup data is transferred from the disk in your backup server to your Sun StorageTek disk arrays, where it remains for fast restores (restores are most often needed within 48 hours of a backup). Then, on a separate schedule, the data is backed up to your offline tape library for secure, offsite archival, all via automated management policies.

Once an initial full backup has been created, NetVault: Backup can automatically use that image to create updated full backups without accessing the data on the application server again. NetVault: Backup synthesizes the original backup image with the incremental changes to create a new full backup without impacting the application server or network again. And the existence of a recent full backup provides faster restores without the need to apply multiple incremental updates.

True image restore
|
When restoring a set of files that have been changed, deleted, or modified over time, NetVault: Backup will correctly restore a single file or an entire file system to the image seen on disk at the point in time when each backup was taken. Even if the backup instance used to select the restore of an entire volume includes only incremental data, NetVault: Backup will carefully recover the complete set of files by automatically using the correct backup media.
