Sun StorageTek Data Mirror Software

Sun StorageTek Data Mirror Software

Features and Benefits

In addition to using secondary volumes for backup and recovery, application testing, and other production operations, you can also StorageTek Data Mirror software for rapid recovery from casualties, such as data corruption from an error or a virus. Simply designate a secondary component as the primary volume and the result is an instant restore from disk.

Flexibility
Supports a wide range of operations StorageTek Data Mirror software lets you create secondary volumes that are similar to data snapshots. The secondary volumes can be used for a wide range of production operations, including backup, data recovery, application testing and development, database extracts, and data warehousing, while the primary volume remains available for production application processing.

4-way mirrors support multiple needs The software's 4-way mirrors can support up to one primary and three secondary components, or volumes, for a total of four volumes, making it easy to meet multiple needs.

Easily create data copies StorageTek Data Mirror software’s split mirrors and rapid rejoins make it easy to create data copies and accelerate the process of bringing them current as required.

Available for other SAN hosts A mirror's secondary components can be split from the primary component and made available to other SAN hosts. While split, StorageTek Data Mirror software tracks changes to the volumes, enabling the components to rejoin later by updating only the changes.
Rapid Recovery
Instant restore StorageTek Data Mirror software can also be used for rapid recovery from casualties. In the event of data corruption from a user or software error or a virus, you can designate a secondary component as the primary component, resulting in an instant restore from disk. You can then remount and restart the application without the delays associated with tape or other methods.
Easy Data Migration
Move data without disrupting active applications StorageTek Data Mirror software can also act as a powerful data migration tool. By creating mirrors, then designating the primary component as the primary and deleting the original primary volumes, you can migrate data without disruption. The software moves data between legacy and new storage systems and also between storage tiers for archival applications.

Migrate data from existing volumes to virtual volumes The software’s Virtual Legacy Volumes (VLVs) are specially designated volumes with data in-place prior to integration within a StorageTek 6920 system. Mirroring moves the data from legacy volumes to virtual volumes with enhanced capabilities. Integrating existing storage with data in-place minimizes maintenance outages and allows migration to occur on a preferred time schedule instead of a confined maintenance window.
