Fast, Real-Time Replication
Synchronous mode capability
Sun StorageTek Data Replicator software’s asynchronous operating mode ensures that all writes are completed to both sites before acknowledging write-complete to the application. Synchronous mode prioritizes currency of data over application performance. This Zero Data Loss capability provides the shortest possible Recovery Point Objective (RPO).

Asynchronous mode capability
Asynchronous mode acknowledges write-complete to the application as soon as it is written and logs write data for propagation to the remote site, often after a delay. Asynchronous mode prioritizes local application performance over the currency of the data. It provides a balance of the best possible local performance while maintaining an almost current set of data in the event of a disaster, and enables operation over a more economical network connection by smoothing out bursts of data transfers.

Reduced cost and complexity
The optional SIO combo card available for the Sun StorageTek 6920 system provides onboard Gigabit Ethernet ports for transferring data between systems and sites. This reduces and complexity by avoiding the need to deploy and manage additional equipment for the FC to IP conversion process.

Write-Order Consistency Groups ensure data integrity
The software’s Write-Order Consistency groups preserve write transaction ordering across volumes at the remote site. They enable remote volumes to be used immediately as restartable volumes in the event of a primary site failure, ensuring remote copy data integrity.

Fast Resynch. minimizes loss
Designed for Sun StorageTek 6920 systems, the Fast Resynch. feature tracks changes at the primary site in the event of disruption or a link failure, then rapidly updates the remote site when communications are restored. This minimizes the window of vulnerability to data loss whenever there is a network or communications infrastructure problem.

Supports Legacy and non-Sun Systems
Snapshot methodology reduces complexity
Sun StorageTek Data Replicator software enables you to add its capabilities to existing Sun and non-Sun storage system. This enhances existing storage and enables a single snapshot methodology between different storage array types, reducing complexity.
Virtual Legacy Volume (VLV) support
VLVs are specially designated volumes with data-in-place prior to integration within a Sun StorageTek 6920 system. In combination with VLVs, you can establish replication on existing data volumes while retaining data-in-place.
