4 Gb/sec Fibre Channel technology switching has multiple benefits. It provides the bandwidth to reduce the number of ports used as Inter-Switch Links (ISLs), which connect switches to each other. That leaves more open ports for direct attachment of end devices. Even better, a 4 Gb/sec switch lets you build a complete high-performance core-to-edge network of switches and directors that all support 4 Gb/sec performance. And that can cut your backup time, or even improve database and OLTP application performance.

Port consolidation, fewer domains

A typical SAN fan-out with a director core used to be built with 32-port switches. Now, using the 64-port Brocade 4900 switch, you can halve the number of domains to manage, and your space requirements too, not to mention cables. It's the perfect solution where 32-port switches have become overwhelming to manage and a director-class switch is too expensive. It's just the right size to let you save.

Distance with performance brings more devices together

The Brocade 4900 switch gives you full 4 Gb/sec connections to SAN devices up to 100 kilometers away. That brings new speed to a lot of large campus facilities. Further, you can also connect SANs up to 500 kilometers away at 1 Gb/sec.
