Sun and EMC

The combination of Sun, the Solaris OS, and SPARC is a very popular EMC server platform and continues to be so, especially with growing interest and momentum in the Solaris 10 OS and the AMD Opteron processor-based systems. Sun's relationship with EMC (established in 1993), has provided many joint customers with solutions on Solaris OS based platforms.

Sun is dedicated to making it easier for customers to manage and run their data centers by working with major ISVs and IHVs, like EMC, to help ensure their applications run on Sun platforms. In support of this objective, EMC is growing its partner ecosystem, and under a cooperative agreement between Sun and EMC:

• EMC is qualifying its hardware platforms on Solaris 10, on SPARC and x64.
• Sun customers will be able to run EMC software products on Solaris 10 and x64, making it easier to integrate existing and new hardware and software in their data centers.
• Sun will continue to OEM the EMC NetWorker software for backup and recovery which enables Sun to continue offering the EMC software as Sun StorageTek Enterprise Backup Software.
• Sun and EMC have initiated an extended Cooperative Support Agreement that will provide one-stop, 24x7 cooperative support to mutual customers.
• Sun Engineering and EMC's eLab will perform industry-leading interoperability testing to help ensure consistent reliability and connectivity between our products.
