Achievements

  • The Sun Fire V890 server, equipped with 8 dual-threaded, near-linear scalable, 1.35 GHz UltraSPARC IV processors (each with 16MB cache), delivered best price/performance and best number of users per processor in the mid-range class of servers, using the Lotus Domino 6.5.1 mail server. Competitive price/performance vs IBM's Power5 1.65GHz unpublishable > 500K price.
  • The Sun Fire V890 can support a realistic workload of 16600 R6iNotes users,  14020 Notesmark, with average RT of 464ms. Once again, the Sun Solaris Operating Environment and the Sun Fire system architecture have confirmed enterprise level performance and scalability.
  • The Sun Fire V890 has 16.5% more users per processor vs the IBM Power5 1.65 GHz.
  • Best 8-way result, third only to the 16-way result
  • This benchmark result clearly demonstrates that Sun's Sun Fire V890 server and accompanying Solaris 9 Operating System can support significantly large commercial implementation of Lotus Domino mail server, offering enterprise level performance and scalability at the best competitive price performance in the market.

  • Benchmark version is Notesbench 6.5 running on Lotus Domino 6.5.1

Benchmark Overview

  • The benchmark, simulates active users accessing their Domino[R] R6iNotes mail files via standard Web browser. Each simulated user periodically sends, retrieves, and deletes a specified number of e-mail messages from a browser. An average user runs this script four times per hour.
  • The R5iNotes and R6iNotes workloads, using the Lotus Domino Mail server (R5 or R6) are both HTTP based workloads. R6iNotes is heavier with added features and larger mail files using the MIME format.
  • The Lotus Webmail and iNotes workloads are NOT comparable.
