Anticipating the SAS Grid Computing 9.2 release and the annual SAS Global Forum 2009, both in March 2009, SAS chose long-time partner Sun to prototype exciting new technology that allows certain analytics to be automatically grid-enabled.
The prototype is designed to automatically enable a grid example for certain analytics procedures. For example, procedures used in microarray analysis that enable scientists to assess expression levels of thousands of genes for cancer treatment research. These types of problem sets can only produce timely results with the use of high performance, grid based architectures.
Sun's high-end benchmarking center also sought to affirm performance and robustness by processing over 50,000 jobs in the grid environment. This test effort was exclusively performed prior to SAS final signoff for SAS Grid Computing 9.2 on the Solaris OS as a final, large scale validation prior to SAS allowing the final signoff for the SAS Grid Manager 9.2.
