Who Can Benefit

Students who can benefit from this course are system administrators and support personnel who will be running and/or supporting the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition software.  

Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to:

• Install, administer and troubleshoot the Sun Cluster 3.1 Software
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) server administration and maintenance
• Perform basic network administration
• Administer virtual volume structures using Solaris Volume Manager software, formerly known as Solstice DiskSuite software

Module 1 - Sun Cluster Geographic Edition Overview

• Identify the goals and limitations of different types of clusters
• Describe Sun Cluster Geographic Edition software requirements

Module 2 - Installing Sun Cluster Geographic Edition Software and Creating Partnerships

• List the prerequisites for installing the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition Software

• Define the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition infrastructure components
• Enable, verify, and disable the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition infrastructure
• Prepare two clusters to enter into partnership by exchanging keys

Module 3 - Configuring Data Replication

• Differentiate between host-based and hardware-based data replication
• Define essential Availability Suite Data Replication concepts
• Discuss AVS integration in the Sun Cluster environment

• Manage AVS volume sets
• Discuss the Hitachi TrueCopy architecture

Module 4 - Protection Groups

• Define the role of a protection group in the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition software as the unit of switchover and takeover
• Create and enable protection groups using AVS Data Replication
• Switch applications and data replication between nodes of the same cluster
• Perform a manual, controlled switchover of protection groups to the other cluster
• Perform a forced takeover of a protection group
• Recover from a protection group failover

Module 5 - Heartbeats

• Understand how heartbeats are defined as containers for heartbeat plug-ins
• Describe the heartbeat requester and responder infrastructure
• List the elements of the default heartbeats
• Display heartbeat configuration and status
• Tune the default heartbeats
• Create a custom plug-in for an existing heartbeat
• Create a new heartbeat for a new partnership

Module 6 - Security in the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition Environment

• Describe how IPsec can authenticate and encrypt random applications
• Configure IPsec for the default TCP/UDP heartbeat
• Configure IPsec for AVS
• Use role-based access control (RBAC) to configure privileged non-root users

Module 7 - Troubleshooting

• Debug partnership configuration errors
• Debug protection group configuration errors
• Debug IPsec errors
• Debug AVS errors
• Understand a strategy involving using the point-in-time software for disaster recovery
