Who Can Benefit

Students who can benefit from this course are field engineers, senior service providers, senior systems engineers, system maintainers, and anyone responsible for self maintaining midrange networked database servers.

Note: This course is intended for students who maintain their own systems.

Maintenance you perform on your Sun systems might void your warranty or service contract with Sun.

 

Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should have:

• Knowledge of the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) and UNIX
• Knowledge of network administration
• Experience with system hardware replacement
• Knowledge of Sun Management Center 3.0 software
• Knowledge of using SunVTS in troubleshooting
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining workgroup and enterprise servers

 

Skills Gained

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Provide an overview of the product goals, customer roles, major system components; reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features; information resources; and troubleshooting tools for Sun Fire midrange servers
• Set up and configure the system controller and navigate platform and domain shells
• Perform common administrative and maintenance tasks at the platform and domain levels
• Identify, describe, remove, and replace field-replaceable units (FRUs)
• Troubleshoot common faults in Sun Fire midrange servers

Module 1 - Introducing the Sun Fire Midrange Servers

• List the functional goals of the Sun Fire midrange server product line

Module 2 - Field-Replaceable Units

• Describe the various administrative and service layers on the Sun Fire midrange server products

• Monitor the Sun Fire V1280/E2900 server platform by using LOM shell commands
