Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to:

• Administer and troubleshoot the Solaris operating system on Sun-based servers
• Perform basic network administrative tasks on Sun-based servers
• Access a server through a system controller or other lights-out manager interfaces
• Perform proper parts replacement procedures on Sun-based servers

 

Skills Gained

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Identify the technological differences between the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 and Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 servers
2. Find the location of devices on the servers using architectural diagrams
3. Configure system components, including memory, disk drives, and PCI devices
4. Perform parts replacement procedures on the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140/T5240 servers
5. Configure the service processor for remote access to the servers using Advanced Lights Out Manager (ALOM) or Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM)
6. Perform system maintenance procedures both on the server's operating system and through the service processor
7. Configure the diagnostic mode for the servers to obtain system information pertinent for troubleshooting
