Featured Content

Content Block

Variable-width text blocks of paragraph-formatted content, with Content Headers, Body Copy, Directional Links, and grey line Content Dividers (which always appear unless they are at the top of the page or part of a larger block of content that combines several components).

Anchor Links

This component links from the top of one HTML page to targeted areas on the lower portion of the same page.

List Control

An inline form or row of links and text that allows the user to jump from page to page of a result list or to change the parameters of the query.

Progress Indicator

A visual representation of a sequential process, with different treatment designed to show users where they are in the process.

Customer Quote

An HTML text block with a quote and an attribution, on a yellow background.

Pagination

A row of links and text that allows the user to jump from page to page through a set of query results.

Form Table

Tabular product data summarizing features and variables. Includes a "button bar" across the bottom for call-to-action items.

Legend

A Legend component that can be used as part of the main content area of a page to add additional clarification or definition to the other page contents.

Training Ecommerce Purchase

The eCommerce Purchasing Component allows the user to make a purchase from the training product page. This component is located with data from the product purchasing database in order to help the user make a purchasing decision.

Item Selector

The Item Selector Component is used to create a page with a picklist of items that a user can chose from in order to locate that item's target page.

This component is an expandable content block used to expose deeper, detailed information while keeping the initial view neat.

Semantic markup for personal or organizational contact information. Conforms to the hCard microformat standard.

Training Ecommerce Purchase

The eCommerce Purchasing Component allows the user to purchase a training course from a training product page. This component is populated with data from the product purchasing database and is rendered in Starlight.

In-Page Search

An in-page search containing contextual search information.

LivePerson Expert Widget

Javascript-enabled widgets from the liveperson service which list experts for hire.

Embedded Video Frame

This component is an Embedded Video Frame.

Bar Chart

Large HTML Based Bar Chart.

Accordion Widget

A fixed-height box with multiple expanding/collapsing sections, only one of which can be viewed at a time.

Inline Poll/Feedback Widget

A JavaScript widget that displays a poll or feedback widget. Can host either JSKIT or Opinionlab content.

Hero Board

Large image or special content treatment for "hero" products.

Overview

This component contains a brief introduction to a page's contents.

Product Highlight Link

A link to a special feature (such as an interactive tour or a review from a respected source) prominently placed to bubble up compelling information about a specific product.

Big Top Banner

Big Top banners draw attention to primary content such as core site sections (gateways), featured articles, major promotions and SMI initiatives. They provide an opportunity to convey the Sun brand in a loud and clear voice and are used sparingly on a defined - finite - set of pages.

Primary Content Banner

The Primary Content Banner puts promotional content front and center on a web page. This component is smaller than the Big Top Banner, but much more appropriate for lower level pages.

Secondary Content Banner

A promotional area within the main body of the page but below the primary content. The Secondary Content Banner uses a small image in combination with HTML copy.

Content Bolt - On

A variable-width area highlighting offerings within a hardware or software product page.

Full Width News Ticker

A rotating news ticker that sits at the top of the page after a breadcrumb component or, if present, after an L00 or L05 component.

Three Panel Big Top

This component is deprecated, consider using the l06 instead.

Media Board

This is a three panel big top like component with three lead in panels that pop up a larger panel with more content.

Learning Path Course Block

A block-level section hilighting courses in a learning path.

Content Element

Blocks of textual content in the form of headings, paragraphs, and lists.

Title & Container

This is a generic container for content components.

Spec & Comparison Table

This component is used to display specifications or comparisons about products or services.

Thumbnail Gallery

This component is used in the content area to show up to three thumbnails and launch the K03 Media Shell.

Video Thumbnail

This component is used to show video thumbnails. In most cases it should launch the K03 Media Shell, but in some cases i can link to another page with the video presented in the page.

Customer Ratings

This component is used to show customer ratings and reviews.

Download Widget

This component is used to provide a mechanism for downloading software from sun.com.

Show More Menu

This component uses a pull down menu to show content or further menu navigation.

Max Image Size Container

DIV container used to automatically resize any contained images to a specific width as well as providing an auto generated k5 to view the full size image. This is useful on pages that have several large images that push the page design past it's normal width.

This is an in-body component for the category page design to list related community links.

Inline Promotion

An inline promotional block used to highlight a special offer related to the content of the page.

The Primary Nav Elements are modular elements intended for use on navigation class pages to help users navigate to destination pages.

HTML Page Structure

Shows the overall structure of each HTML page, including <html> and <body> elements, as well as the <head> element and its contents.

Global Nav Toolbar

The Global Navigation Toolbar provides site-wide links and tools.

Masthead

The Masthead identifies the site and is the primary means of expression for the Sun brand. It anchors the page and serves as top-level navigation.

Breadcrumb

Breadcrumbs are a row of links below the masthead, separated by ">" characters. They display the primary navigational path leading to (but not including) the page a user is currently on.

Global Footer

The Global footer link appears at the bottom of every page of the Sun site. It enables users to conveniently access key corporate content at any point. The copyright statement and the "pipes" that separate each link are also elements of the Global Footer.

Secure

The Secure Area Header appears In areas of sun.com that general users are restricted from accessing, (e.g. password-protected, extranet), to remind users that they are in a restricted access area of the site.

Document End

This component is EOLd. Closing tags are now included in the a00 HTML Page Structure component.

Omniture Call

The "Omniture Call" component is used to feed data to the Omniture metric program.

Page Title

The large text near the top of each page that serves as a descriptive heading for the content on the page.

Country / Lang Selection

These forms are used to select the user's site-wide preference for country and language.

Opinion Lab Widget

The Opinion Lab Widget allows us to collect data about the users experience with any given page. The component itself consist of a few javascript references resulting in a feedback widget identified by a floating "[ + ]".

Content Wrapper

The main table that contains the content and the left or right navigation columns.

Features

The homepage feature is a complex and important part of the sun.com homepage. It displays the rotating main features and serves as a container for the 3 homepage promos.

News Ticker

A news ticker that rotates through a list of news stories.

Bottom Panel

The Bottom Panel is a set of code fragments used to contain the B7 components on the homepage.

Home Promo

This is a promotional banner used on the right of the homepage feature.

Sun Contact Info

This component provides a prominent place to display section-specific sales or support contact information.

Login Register

The Login Register component indicates users' log-in status, and greets users by screen name when they are logged in. The component allows users to log out when they are logged in; log in when they're not logged in; and enables them to register when they're not logged in.

Alternate Path Nav

The component that allows users to stray from the Primary Navigation Path and browse items by alternative classifications, such as product family or task.

Contextual Contact

Allows users to establish contact with the appropriate Sun department based on what content they're looking at when they initiate the contact.

Contextual Search

This component allows users to search within the area of the site they're currently in.

Customer Lifecycle

This component recognizes the ways users interact with the site: how they gather information and complete tasks in the various stages of their relationship with Sun, our products and services. It offers users an easy way to navigate to all of the information relevant to their current objectives.

Secondary Nav

The Secondary Navigation component provides navigation to content that doesn't live within the current silo, but is closely enough related that users may look for it there.

Primary Banner

The Primary Side Nav Banner uses a combination of photographic image (with optional headline in the image) and HTML text. Use this banner to promote the following:

Secondary Graphic Banner

A Graphic only side nav banner.

Gallery & Video Spotlight

A thumbnail Gallery or Video Spotlight for the side nav. Launches the media shell window.

Side Nav Highlights

Used to display "Spotlight" type content specifically about the content of the page.

Companion Links

Used to display related links. Unlike the E0 Related component, the E15 component should contain links that are very specific to the content of the current page. It should not include a broad set of related links that apply to many pages.

Opt In Widget

Used to capture user input for submission to various email or newsletter based communications.

Menu Navigation Widget

Used to allow users to navigate to related content from a menu based widget.

Tab Drawer Navigation

The component provides users with an alternate method for navigating tab content.

Rollover Images

A rollover image component for side columns. Also known as the "Get It" button, the E19 format is (to-date) used exclusively for promoting downloads of high-profile software products. Requests for E19 banners must be approved by the brand team. Submit requests to image-request@sun.com

Featured Graphic

The Featured Graphic component is the image in the upper left hand corner of the content area on an Item Page.

Featured Quote and Address

The small content box in the upper left hand corner of the left nav column.

Call to Action

The Call to Action component only contains a Primary Action Button.

Subnav Level 3

Non-linear navigation on an Item Page offering additional pages about a single product, service, or topic.

Subnav Level 2

Navigtion for Level 2 pages based on the simple Parent/Child or Folder/File metaphor.

Privacy Statement

A left or right nav component with a brief statement about Sun's Privacy Policy; it's meant to complement a form.

Search Filter / G23 Side Bar Container

This container allows the usage of the g23v0 (example x1) as a side nav element for filtering search results.
